04 About the shop

A family name on every job site.

We started Stone & Scappes in 2017 out of a single truck and a deep respect for the craft. Eight years later we're still family-owned, still laying every stone ourselves, and still picking up the phone when you call.

06 How it works

Six steps
from idea to done.

No mystery, no runaround. Here's exactly how a Stone & Scappes project moves from the first phone call to the final walkthrough.

STEP 01

Request Consultation

Tell us about the space. We visit on-site, take measurements, and listen to how you want to use it.

STEP 02

Design

We draft a layout and a material palette so you can picture the finished project before we ever break ground.

STEP 03

Estimate

A clear, itemized quote — materials, labor and timeline spelled out. No surprises, no pressure to sign.

STEP 04

Schedule

We lock a start date and order product direct from the manufacturer so everything's staged and ready.

STEP 05

Construction

Our own crew builds it — engineered base, precise finish, and a site swept clean at the end of every day.

STEP 06

Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished project together, confirm every detail, and hand over simple care guidance.

09 Good questions

Answers before
you even ask.

The questions we hear most from Hartford County homeowners. Don't see yours? Just ask us — we're happy to talk it through.

How much does a patio cost?
It depends on size, materials and site prep, but as a rule of thumb most paver patios in our area run roughly $25–$45 per square foot installed. Simple square layouts sit at the lower end; multi-level designs with seating walls, fire features or premium pavers run higher. We'll give you an exact, itemized number after a free on-site visit.
Do you pull permits?
Yes. When a project requires a permit — larger retaining walls, certain drainage work, structures near property lines — we handle the paperwork with your town's building department so everything's done to code.
How long does installation take?
Most residential patios and walkways take about 1–2 weeks from break-ground to cleanup, weather permitting. Larger outdoor-living builds with kitchens, walls and lighting run longer. You'll get a realistic timeline in your written estimate — and updates as we go.
What pavers do you recommend?
We install manufacturer-engineered product from names like Nicolock and Techo-Bloc, chosen on merit for Connecticut's freeze-thaw climate — not on markup. In your design consult we'll match colors and textures to your home and walk you through the options in person.
Do you install drainage?
Absolutely. Proper grading and drainage is what keeps a patio, wall or lawn from failing in a few seasons. We correct water problems — surface drains, downspout tie-ins, regrading — as part of the build, not as an afterthought.
How long do retaining walls last?
A properly engineered segmental retaining wall — correct base, backfill and drainage — can last 25 to 50+ years. The lifespan is decided underground, in the prep you never see, which is exactly where we don't cut corners.
What warranty do you offer?
Your project is covered by both the manufacturer's product warranty and our own workmanship warranty on the installation. We'll spell out the specifics in writing with your quote so you know exactly what's protected.
