Stone & Scappes was founded in 2017 by Wender Ramos, a West Hartford native whose passion for building beautiful outdoor spaces started long before the company ever existed. What began with one truck, a trailer, and a relentless work ethic has grown into one of Connecticut's trusted names in hardscaping, masonry, landscaping, and outdoor living construction.

Long before launching Stone & Scappes, Wender spent years mastering every aspect of the landscaping and masonry industry. He worked for one of the largest landscaping companies in the West Hartford area, maintaining condominium associations, residential neighborhoods, and luxury estate properties while gaining hands-on experience in landscape construction, hardscape installation, drainage, grading, and excavation.
He wasn't interested in simply learning how to install pavers or build retaining walls — he wanted to understand every part of the business, from meeting with homeowners and solving drainage challenges to managing crews and coordinating large-scale projects. When the time came to start his own company in 2017, he began with one truck, a trailer, and a determination to build a business homeowners could truly trust. During that very first season, Stone & Scappes completed projects for 35 homeowners, growing almost entirely through word-of-mouth referrals.
Rather than taking profits, Wender reinvested everything back into the business — expanding equipment, capabilities, and services. That commitment to continuous improvement allowed Stone & Scappes to grow from lawn maintenance into complete hardscaping, masonry, landscape construction, excavation, drainage, and outdoor living projects, while keeping the same attention to detail that earned its first customers.
